Frequently Asked Questions
Everything about the free template, answered.
What is included in the free certification tracker template?
A ready-to-use Excel (.xlsx) workbook with columns for employee name, department, certification type, issue date, expiry date, status, days remaining, reminder lead time, owner, and notes. It ships with 5 fictional sample rows, auto-calculating Status and Days Remaining formulas, and red/amber/green conditional formatting so expired and upcoming renewals stand out.
How does the automatic status calculation work?
The Status column uses a formula that compares each expiry date against today: dates in the past show "Expired", dates within your reminder lead time show "Expiring Soon", and everything else shows "Current". The Days Remaining column is a simple expiry-minus-today formula. Copy both formulas down as you add rows.
Do I need to create an account or pay to download it?
No account and no payment. You only enter your name, work email, and company so we can send you the download link and occasional practical compliance tips. Unsubscribe anytime.
Will it open in Google Sheets or older Excel versions?
Yes. The file is a standard .xlsx workbook that opens in Microsoft Excel (2007 and later), Google Sheets, LibreOffice Calc, and Apple Numbers. Formulas and conditional formatting carry over in all of them.
When should I switch from a spreadsheet to CertTracker?
Spreadsheets work well up to roughly 20-30 employees. Beyond that, manual date checks, reminder emails, document links, and audit exports become error-prone. CertTracker automates reminders (email and SMS), generates one-click audit reports, lets employees upload their own documents, and scans certificates with AI — while keeping the same employee-to-requirement view you already know.
Ready to put renewals on autopilot?
The template organizes you today. CertTracker keeps you organized every day after.
